Removing equipment from the Tech Suite
You may not remove equipment from the Tech Suite without checking out the equipment from the online equipment checkout system or receiving explicit permission from Tech Suite administrators via email. Removal of equipment from the Tech Suite without permission for any reason is grounds for permanent termination of checkout privileges, Mcard access, and Certifications.
Access to Equipment
You must be in "good standing" to check out equipment. Violating Tech Suite or Equipment Check Out policies may result in equipment checkout suspension which will revoke your access for the duration of the semester or longer until further review by the PAT Studio Coordinator and PAT Faculty.
PAT majors and students enrolled in PAT classes may check out equipment exclusively in relation to course work, the preparation and performance of PAT recitals, PAT events, or PAT research. Checking out gear for personal use is strictly prohibited without prior permission from the PAT Studio Coordinator or PAT faculty.
PAT staff and faculty may check out gear at any time for any purpose. However this must always be done through the equipment checkout system.
SMTD and greater University of Michigan staff and faculty may request to check out equipment by submitting a Helpdesk Ticket.
All users of equipment checkout system must be registered with TSMS. Users will not have access Tech Suite equipment otherwise.
Responsibilities
All equipment, kit items, accessories, peripherals, or otherwise are the sole responsibility of the person who's name is on the reservation. The resulting punitive actions and fees for policy violations will be directed to this person.
If you wish to have someone pick up equipment for you, please add that person's name to the reservation comments.
Terms of Usage
You may only use equipment for course work, the preparation or performance of department-sanctioned recitals, department-sanctioned events, or department-sanctioned research unless explicitly permitted by PAT Studio Coordinator or PAT Faculty. If you are found to have violated this policy, you may be subject to rental fees, which will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
Equipment should be used in a proper and intended manner that is consistent with the Owner's instructions and/or manuals
You may not perform any service or repairs (i.e. fix physical issues or update firmware) without explicit permission from the PAT Studio Coordinator
You must revert the device settings to their initial state upon receiving the device, weather physical switches, software, or firmware changes
You may not permit equipment to be operated or used by any person who is not authorized to do so
You may not operate or use equipment in violation of the law or to commit a violation of the law
You may not operate, maintain, or store equipment in a manner likely to cause damage to the equipment
You may not use equipment for for-profit/commercial purposes
Equipment should be returned in the same condition it was checked out, excluding expected wear and tear
Equipment comes with no warranty
University of Michigan/SMTD/PAT and its affiliates are not responsible for physical or monetary damages arising from the user's use of equipment
You must adhere to policies outlined in SPG 520.01
Checkout
Equipment can be checked out in-person to students only by authorized equipment checkout staff
Students may not check out equipment themselves
Faculty may self-checkout equipment
Initial checkout period may not exceed two weeks unless approved by the PAT Studio Coordinator or PAT Faculty
Checkouts can be extended twice by up to 1 week
Violation of this policy may result in loss of equipment checkout privileges
Reservation
Equipment may be reserved by any one who has valid access to the equipment checkout system
Faculty may self-fill their own equipment reservations
Initial reservation period may not exceed two weeks unless approved by the PAT Studio Coordinator or PAT Faculty
Reservations can only be made for the current semester
Due Dates
Equipment must be returned by 8pm on the specified due date for the checkout or reservation
Equipment should only be returned to the Tech Suite equipment depot. Do not return equipment anywhere else.
Equipment may only be returned during equipment depot hours of operation
A reservation can be extended 2 times, each time adding up to one additional week, pending equipment demand and availability
Late Penalties
Note that you will not be penalized for equipment that is overdue because of changes to the operating hours of the Equipment Checkout depot.
Checkout privileges will be suspended if equipment is 30 days or more overdue.
Privileges will be restored when the items have been returned.
Equipment that is 90 days or more overdue will result in a financial hold, which blocks students from registering for classes or receiving transcripts.
The hold is released when items are returned or when replacement costs are paid for lost equipment.
Fees
Cost to repair damage to equipment, cases, bags, kit items, accessories, peripherals, or any other items included in the checkout
Cost to replace equipment, cases, bags, kit items, accessories, peripherals, or any other items included in the checkout deemed to be damaged beyond repair
Cost to replace lost or stolen equipment, cases, bags, kit items, accessories, peripherals, or any other items included in the checkout
Cost to replace equipment, cases, bags, kit items, accessories, peripherals, or any other items included in the checkout that have exceeded past their return due date as outlined in the Late Penalties section
Equipment Recall
During winter and summer break, all equipment is recalled and must be returned. Equipment checkout does not operate over these breaks.
