Troubleshooting Guide
For Signal Routing Issues
Start from one end of your signal chain. This includes all digital signal processing within a computer as well.
Follow each step of your signal chain to ensure it is behaving as expected. (For example, checking your DAW is outputting audio, checking your computer is outputting audio from your DAW or ensuring Dante is indicating an audio signal)
If you do not find a problem, consider any possible failure points you may have missed and trace your signal chain in the opposite direction, checking that everything is powered on and configured as expected
For Equipment Issues
Power cycle the device (turn it off and on)
Check firmware is updated to the latest version or is at the version expected by another device
Check all software is up to date and compatible
Check all connections are fully plugged in
Check indicator lights for power and possible errors
Swap out equipment item (if possible) to determine if that piece of equipment is the cause of the issue
Bypass the equipment item (if possible) to determine if that piece of equipment is the cause of the issue
If equipment is not strictly necessary for a project, just find a way to operate without it (i.e. if you are using a Dante device but don't absolutely need to be using Dante, then just bypass Dante and route directly)
If all else fails, ask for help from faculty, a peer, or the Studio Coordinator. Also don't forget to check the manual for common issues! Report problems and their solutions (if any) to the Technical Director through the helpdesk. This way we can build up a knowledge-base of troubleshooting tips.
