Checkout Assistant

Description

Checkout assistants help run and maintain the  PAT equipment checkout system.

This position often has a lot of downtime that can be spent on either a personal project (see Additional Responsibilities) or class work.

Qualifications

Checkout assistants must:

  • Be an actively enrolled as a student at the University of Michigan

  • Have a basic understanding of different types of audio equipment and cables

  • Be honest, responsible, punctual, and consistent

  • Know how to correctly wrap cables or be willing to learn

  • Have strong communication skills and ability to respond to emails and messages promptly

Time commitment

  • Around 2 to 4 hours per week (additional hours possible)

  • Generally consistent weekly schedule

  • Must be able to work weekends

  • Must find a substitute when unable to attend a shift

Pay

$15 an hour

General Responsibilities

  • Be attentive to the equipment checkout table during your scheduled time, or find a substitute to fill in

  • Utilize Cheqroom to fulfill equipment reservations, checkout equipment, and return equipment

  • Assist students with basic functions of equipment they are borrowing

  • Ensure equipment is only reserved for classwork or department-approved research projects

  • Identify damaged or missing items and parts

  • 30 minutes of your weekly time will be spent:

    • Completing weekly organizing tasks

    • Cleaning and organizing the equipment depot

    • Ensuring rechargeable items are plugged in to charge when not in use

    • Assisting with tagging, bagging, and cataloging new equipment

  • Submit a brief report of tasks completed at the end of each work session

  • Attend a training session at the beginning of employment

Additional Responsibilities

Every semester, each assistant will undertake one major organization or documentation project. When other regular tasks have been completed, assistants will utilize their remaining time to work on these tasks. Studio Coordinator will finalize details about the nature of project.
