Studio Assistant
Description
Studio assistants help with general maintenance and upkeep of the studios.
Assistants will identify and troubleshoot problems, ensure facilities are organized, and help track down missing items. Assistants also help keep facilities dust-free and white boards clean.
Assistants also help run and maintain the PAT equipment checkout system.
Qualifications
Studio assistants must:
Be an actively enrolled as a student at the University of Michigan
Be a PAT major or else have successfully completed one PAT course within a year of employment
Have excellent technical and troubleshooting skills
Have a basic understanding of analog and digital audio systems
Be able to learn complex technical tasks and systems quickly
Be able to work independently without frequent guidance
Be honest, responsible, punctual, consistent, and have excellent attention to detail
Know how to correctly wrap cables or be willing to learn
Have strong communication skills and ability to respond to emails and messages promptly
Additionally:
Software development or IT skills are a bonus
Time commitment
Around 2 to 4 hours per week (additional hours possible)
Generally consistent weekly schedule
Must be able to work weekends
Must find a substitute when unable to attend a shift
Pay
$15 an hour
General Responsibilities
Complete studio maintenance and cleaning checklists weekly
Take inventory of equipment
Set up studios
Check dry erase markers
Move personal items to lost-and-found
Submit a brief report of tasks completed at the end of each work session
Attend a training session at the beginning of employment
Equipment checkout:
Be attentive to the equipment checkout table during your scheduled time, or find a substitute to fill in
Utilize Cheqroom to fulfill equipment reservations, checkout equipment, and return equipment
Assist students with basic functions of equipment they are borrowing
Ensure equipment is only reserved for classwork or department-approved research projects
Identify damaged or missing items and parts
Additional Responsibilities
Every semester, each assistant will undertake one major organization or documentation project. When other regular tasks have been completed, assistants will utilize their remaining time to work on these tasks. Studio Coordinator will finalize details about the nature of project.
